Bridging the Gap: Dental Restoration for North Dallas

I’m Missing Teeth, What Should I Do?

Patients lose teeth for many reasons – accidents, improperly fitted dental appliances, tooth decay, periodontal disease, and others. Fixed dental bridges, also known as fixed partial dentures, are to replace a missing tooth. Fixed bridges are anchored by a crown on the tooth either side of the space left by a missing tooth or a few missing teeth. Fixed partial dentures offer several benefits. Since they are anchored to existing healthy teeth, they are quite strong and can stand up to the pressure exerted by full-force biting and chewing. Traditionally, a fixed bridge is  made from metal and covered in porcelain to create natural-looking replacement teeth. Unfortunately, this can sometimes create a noticeable dark line between the appliance and gums. Dr. Greg Seal will normally suggest an all-ceramic bridge to eliminate this problem.

Building A Bridge: How Does the Process Work?

Two natural teeth (on either side of the space where teeth are missing) are prepared for crowns. We’ll take an impression of your teeth and use it to create a template for building your custom bridge. The fixed bridge will be fabricated in our German-equipped on-site laboratory. We will use an articulator – a machine that will replicate your unique bite and the movement of your jaws. This allows us to create an appliance that will fit your mouth comfortably, just like your natural teeth did.

Your first appointment will include tooth preparation and the dental impression. You will  be given a temporary fixed bridge that is very close to the final one in feel and appearance. At your second appointment, the final bridge will be cemented into place, and we will make any necessary adjustments for an ideal fitting. Dr. Seal believes all dental restorations should look and feel like natural teeth, so you can expect excellence.

If you’re missing one or more teeth, a dental bridge may be the solution that will restore your smile.
